Chatra, Jul 18 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman from Bihar was allegedly strangled to death by her boyfriend following a dispute between them in Jharkhand's Chatra district, police said on Saturday.
The victim, Divya Kumari, was a resident of Achhama village in Gaya district, and her body was found abandoned in a stone quarry at Jajlo village within Hunterganj police station limits on June 26, the police said.
"We have arrested an accused, Nepali Ganjhu, a resident of Kharanti village in Bihar's Gaya district. Divya's boyfriend allegedly hired him to kill her for Rs 2 lakh. The boyfriend, Rahul Yadav, is still absconding," Chatra SDPO Sunny Vardhan said.
During investigation, it has come to light that the victim had lodged a criminal case against her boyfriend following a dispute between them. He was continuously pressuring Divya to withdraw the case registered against him, but she refused, Vardhan said.
The boyfriend feared that if she testified against him in court, he could be punished. Out of this fear, he conspired to eliminate the victim and hired Ganjhu for Rs 2 lakh. Ganjhu was provided Rs 25,000 as an advance, the SDPO said.
According to their plan, they called the victim to the spot, Yadav strangled her to death with the help of Ganjhu and abandoned her body in the quarry. Police seized Rs 18,000 from Ganjhu and an FIR has been registered. PTI COR RPS RPS RG
