Banda (UP), Jul 18 (PTI) Unidentified assailants beat the priest of an ancient Hanuman temple to death with sticks and clubs in Jaitpur, Mahoba district, a police official said on Saturday.
Vandana Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police of Mahoba, said the blood-stained body of Udit Narayan Mishra (65), the priest, was found within the temple premises in the Kulpahar police station area on Saturday morning.
She said the body bore marks indicating he was beaten with sticks and clubs and unidentified assailants apparently killed him Friday night.
Priest Mishra was originally a resident of Hamirpur district and had been living and performing worship at the temple for the past 15-16 years.
The Additional SP said significant evidence was recovered from the crime scene and is currently being examined.
A murder case against unknown persons has been registered based on a complaint filed by the priest's brother, Jugul, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. PTI COR NAV ASD ASD
