Worker dies in fire at storage unit of Pune building

Pune, Jul 18 (PTI) A worker died after sustaining critical injuries in a fire that erupted in a storage unit in a six-storey residential building in Pune’s Kondhwa area, fire officials said. The blaze broke out on the ground floor of Firdous Apartment in Vetal Nagar around 9 pm, following which three fire tenders were rushed to the spot, they said. "The ground floor of the building was being used to store materials required for painting work. There was a fire and heavy smoke when our teams reached the site," an official said. Firefighters rescued a worker trapped inside the premises in a critical condition, and he was immediately shifted to a hospital, where he died during treatment, he said. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Irfan Yusuf. "According to the owner, welding work was being carried out inside the premises. The fire was brought under control in time, and it was prevented from spreading to the upper floors, averting more fatalities," the official said. PTI SPK ARU
