Saharanpur (UP), Jul 13 (PTI) A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a Haryana Roadways bus hit his bike on a railway overbridge in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district on Monday, police said.
The bus driver abandoned the vehicle and fled after the accident, which occurred around 9 am under the Rampur Maniharan police station limits, they said.
Kishan, a resident of Sikheda village in the Nanauta area, was on his way to work when the accident took place, SHO Ummed Kumar said.
The victim's family and villagers staged a road blockade after the accident, alleging that only one side of the overbridge had been opened to traffic despite completion of the project, leading to frequent accidents.
The blockade was lifted after Sub-Divisional Magistrate Purva and police officers assured the protesters that the matter would be looked into.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding bus driver, police said. PTI COR KIS ARI
