Gangtok, Jul 17 (PTI) Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Friday extended greetings to the Press Club of Sikkim on its 24th Foundation Day, lauding its contribution to strengthening the media fraternity and reaffirming his government's commitment to the welfare of journalists. Describing the Press Club's Foundation Day as a significant milestone for journalism in Sikkim, Tamang said the organisation has played a vital role in promoting responsible and professional journalism over the years. "A free and independent press is the cornerstone of a vibrant democracy, and our government remains committed to supporting the welfare and growth of media professionals," the chief minister said. Tamang highlighted measures taken by the state government for the media fraternity, including an increase in the annual grant to the Press Club, establishment of the Press Club Bhawan, enhancement of journalists' awards, revision of government advertisement rates, health insurance for accredited journalists, and the launch of the Patrakar Samman Yojana for retired scribes. Calling upon journalists to uphold the highest standards of integrity, the CM urged the media to showcase Sikkim's peace, progress and aspirations. PTI CORR RBT
