Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 8 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has assured full support for Operation Toofan, the anti-narcotics campaign being held in Kerala, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said on Wednesday. According to a statement, Chennithala met Shivakumar at the Vidhana Soudha and sought Karnataka's cooperation in curbing the sale and trafficking of narcotic drugs. Shivakumar assured that additional police personnel would be deployed along the Kerala-Karnataka border to strengthen surveillance, in response to Kerala's request for tighter checks, the statement said. Congratulating Kerala on the success of Operation Toofan, the Karnataka CM said the anti-narcotics campaign could serve as a model for other states, the statement said. He also assured stronger coordination and cooperation between the Kerala and Karnataka police forces in combating drug trafficking, and directed the Karnataka Chief Secretary to initiate follow-up action, the statement said. Chennithala has convened a meeting of the Directors General of Police of the southern states in Thiruvananthapuram on July 10 as part of Operation Toofan, to strengthen inter-state coordination against drug trafficking.
