What you get
Free food grain of 5 kg per person per month under NFSA. Wheat at ₹0 per kg (earlier ₹2/kg) and rice at ₹0 per kg (earlier ₹3/kg). Covers approximately 81.35 crore beneficiaries. Distributed through PDS (Public Distribution System) ration shops. Announced to be free for 5 years from January 2024.
Who can apply
Beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) — Priority Households (PHH) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cardholders.
For: NFSA beneficiaries (BPL and poorest families)
- Must have a ration card under NFSA
- PHH: up to 5 kg per person per month free
- AAY: 35 kg per household per month free
- Distributed through PDS ration shops
