Ballia (UP), Jul 16 (PTI) A day after a 30-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death over dowry demands in Naghar village, police registered a case against nine members of her family-in-law, officials said on Thursday. According to the FIR, victim Amrita Singh was married to Atul Singh on June 2, 2017. Police said her brother Amit Singh alleged that her in-laws subjected her to harassment and physical assault over dowry ever since her marriage, and strangled her to death on Wednesday. Amit claimed that a day before the incident, his sister had sent him photographs showing injuries allegedly caused by an assault from her in-laws. Police said the deceased is survived by two sons. Rasra Circle Officer Rajnish said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and an investigation is underway. Police said no arrest has been reported so far. Police said based on a complaint lodged by the victim's brother, they registered an FIR against her husband, Atul Singh, father-in-law Shambhu Nath Singh, mother-in-law Asha Devi, brother-in-law Chanchal Singh, two other brothers-in-law Hari Singh and Ranu Singh, nephew Ayush Singh, and sisters-in-law Poonam and Juhi. The accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to dowry death and the Dowry Prohibition Act, police said. PTI CORR ABN ASD ASD
