Lucknow/Ghaziabad, Jul 16 (PTI) The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has named the 11-km elevated road connecting Delhi with the city as 'Ram Setu' and is constructing a grand entrance gate featuring Lord Ram's bow and arrow at its Delhi end to give the corridor a distinct cultural identity, officials said on Thursday.
The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation said in a statement here that the elevated road, stretching from the Raj Nagar Extension to the Ghazipur border, will now be known as Ram Setu, and the entrance gate is being developed in line with the new identity.
The gate will feature a giant bow and arrow, symbolising Lord Ram, at its top. Civic authorities are also carrying out beautification works around the structure, including decorative lighting, to make it a prominent landmark during both day and night.
Mayor Sunita Dayal told reporters in Ghaziabad that the project aims not only to enhance the city's aesthetics but also to give Ghaziabad a distinct cultural and religious identity.
"The Ram Setu Gate is being constructed at a cost of around Rs 1 crore. Once completed, it will become one of the city's major attractions and serve as a grand welcome point for people entering Ghaziabad from Delhi," she said.
The 11-km elevated road, built at a cost of around Rs 1,147 crore, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on March 30, 2018. The road has significantly reduced travel time between Ghaziabad and Delhi.
The municipal corporation's executive committee approved a proposal in February 2024 to rename the elevated road as Ram Setu, following which work began on giving the corridor a new identity, officials said. PTI CDN PRK
