Gurugram, Jul 13 (PTI) A vehicle with 21 pending challans, totalling Rs 2,66,000 in fines, was impounded and seized during a checking drive at Gurugram's Panchgaon Chowk on Monday, police said.
As part of the special enforcement campaign against motorists violating traffic rules, strict action is being taken under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, against vehicle owners who have failed to pay traffic challans pending for more than 90 days, a senior officer said.
Motorists are also being informed about their pending challans and encouraged to clear them promptly, he added.
According to the police, during the checking at Panchgaon Chowk, Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar stopped a dumper with a Haryana number plate for driving in the wrong lane. During verification, the vehicle's Registration Certificate (RC) was found to be already suspended by the concerned RTO.
Additionally, the vehicle had 21 pending traffic challans with a total outstanding penalty amount of approximately Rs 2,66,000. Subsequently, the vehicle was impounded and deposited at the Manesar Traffic Police Station, they added.
"The Gurugram Traffic Police appeals to all motorists to strictly follow traffic rules, keep all vehicle documents valid, and pay pending traffic challans on time," a senior traffic police officer said. PTI COR SHS
