Bengaluru, Jul 11 (PTI) Bannerghatta Biological Park on Saturday announced the completion and handover of a 10-hectare ecological restoration project, carried out by TKM as part of its CSR initiative. The project reflects Toyota Kirloskar Motor's commitment to environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation through its Corporate Environmental Responsibility programme, the park said. The restored site was formally handed over to Bannerghatta Biological Park in the presence of A V Surya Sen, Executive Director, Bannerghatta Biological Park; A Ramesh Rao, a senior leader from Toyota Kirloskar Motor; and other officials of the park. In a statement, the park said the project involved scientific ecological restoration measures such as the removal of invasive weeds, the planting of native tree species, the installation of solar-powered fencing, the development of irrigation infrastructure and the establishment of a solar-powered borewell system. "These interventions are aimed at restoring the natural habitat, improving ecological balance, enhancing biodiversity and increasing the availability of natural forage for herbivore species within the safari," it said. As the restoration site is located within the Herbivore Safari, adequate protective measures have been put in place to ensure the successful establishment of the young plantations, the park said. The project also includes a solar-powered borewell and irrigation system to ensure the long-term sustainability of the plantation. "This renewable energy-based solution will provide a reliable water source during dry periods, significantly improving sapling survival, supporting healthy vegetation growth and minimising the environmental footprint," the statement said. In addition, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has committed to maintaining the entire ecological restoration project for a further two years at its own cost, it added. PTI AMP SSK
