Tarn Taran Village Dairy Buffalo Cooperative
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Dairy farming is a secondary livelihood for most farming households in Tarn Taran, with Murrah buffaloes and Sahiwal cows kept for milk sold to Verka and Punjab cooperative dairy collection centres. Village women churn morning milk into makkhan and cook it down into desi ghee that is stored in earthen matkas or sold through local dairymen. Tarn Taran's proximity to the Amritsar dairy processing hub and its dense canal-irrigated crop residue supply supports high buffalo productivity, making the district a consistent contributor to Punjab's cooperative dairy output.
