Woman gang-raped in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum, 2 arrested within hours

Jamshedpur, Jul 9 (PTI) A woman was allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district in the early hours of Thursday, and the two accused were arrested within six hours of the incident, police said. SP (Rural) Shubham Kumar Khandelwal said police received information around 1 am that an injured woman was lying by the roadside near Simuldanga village in the MGM police station area. A police team immediately went to the spot and took the woman to MGM Hospital, he said. After her condition stabilised, the victim told police that two men had taken her on a motorcycle towards Dimna Lake and Mirzadih, where they allegedly attempted to rape her after forcing her to consume liquor, Khandelwal said. When she resisted, the accused allegedly assaulted her and took her to an isolated spot at Simuldanga, where they again forced her to drink before allegedly raping her one after the other, he said. A special team headed by DSP (Patamda) Dayanand Kumar was constituted to trace the accused. The team arrested the two accused within six hours of the incident, the SP said. Police said they have recovered the motorcycle used in the crime and seized liquor bottles and disposable glasses from the scene.
