Properties worth Rs over 1 crore of two drug peddlers attached in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jul 9 (PTI) Properties worth about Rs 1.05 crore belonging to two alleged drug peddlers were attached here on Thursday under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, police said. As part of the ongoing 'Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan', the action was carried out by Rainawari police station, they said. The action reaffirms the commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police to dismantle the drug network by targeting assets acquired through illicit narcotics trade, a spokesperson said. He said the first attached property belongs to Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Tujgari Mohalla, Nowhatta. The attached property comprises a three-storeyed residential house constructed on five marlas of land with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 65 lakh, he added. The accused was involved in two cases under the NDPS Act and 48 cases under the Excise Act, registered at Nowhatta police station. The other property belongs to Bilal Ahmad Kand, a resident of Kand Mohalla, Dal, Rainawari. The property comprises five marlas of land along with a single-storeyed temporary structure erected thereon, having an estimated value of approximately Rs 40 lakh. Both properties were attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after being identified as illegally acquired assets generated through proceeds of narcotics trafficking and drug peddling, the spokesperson said.
