UP court awards life term to woman for killing husband in 2013

Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Jul 11 (PTI) A local court has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for murdering her husband following a domestic dispute in 2013. Announcing the sentence on Friday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Dinesh Kumar Gautam also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the convict, Sunita, Kapil Katiyar, the additional government counsel, said on Saturday. According to Katiyar, Sunita fatally attacked her husband Reetram with a sharp-edged weapon at Rajapur Beni village on November 13, 2013, following a dispute, when the latter was in an inebriated state. Reetram's nephew, Sarvesh, had registered a case of murder implicating Sunita, Katiyar said. During the trial, several prosecution witnesses turned hostile. However, based on substantial evidence and arguments by the prosecution, the court held Sunita guilty of murder. PTI COR NAV SMV ARI
