Ballia (UP), Jul 10 (PTI) A case has been registered against a 28-year-old man here for allegedly posting content on Facebook with an intent to spread hatred and disrupt social harmony, police said on Friday.
The case was registered against Neeraj Kumar Gond on Thursday on a complaint filed by Girijesh Singh, the in-charge of the Sikandarpur police outpost.
Charges have been filed under sections 196 (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 353(1)(c) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the BNS and the Information Technology (Amendment) Act.
Neeraj posted the content on his Facebook ID on July 8.
The complaint states that the post was made with the malicious intent to spread hatred and disturb social harmony. Furthermore, the post was circulated widely to incite Hindu-Muslim riots, the complaint stated.
Station House Officer of Sikandarpur Mool Chand Chaurasia on Friday said the police are investigating the matter and taking necessary legal action. PTI COR NAV DV DV
