Rampur (UP), Jul 12 (PTI) Four persons lost their lives, while three others sustained injuries, when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary truck in the Tanda police station area of Rampur district on Saturday, a police official said on Sunday.
According to the police, 12 people from Delhi were on their way to Jim Corbett Park in Uttarakhand's Ramnagar when the accident took place.
Seven people were travelling in the ill-fated car, while five others who escaped the accident were in another vehicle.
SHO of Tanda police station Sundeep Mishra told PTI that the deceased have been identified as Abhishek Agnihotri (30), Kartik (24), Neeraj (24) and Gulbuddin (35).
He added that three of them (Abhishek Agnihotri, Kartik and Neeraj) died at the spot, while Gulbuddin succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
"The deceased and injured persons were working in a company in Delhi," he said.
The three injured were admitted to the district hospital, from where they were referred to Delhi for treatment, police said.
According to the police, prima facie, it appears that this accident occurred because the car driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The vehicle had to be cut open using a cutter to retrieve the four bodies and the injured, police said.
Superintendent of Police Somendra Meena said that an accident took place at around 5 am on Saturday on the Swar-Tanda road in which seven people were injured. Of these, three had died at the spot itself, while one succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Three others were injured.
The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination, police said. PTI COR NAV MPL MPL
