Ballia (UP), Jul 14 (PTI) Police in Ballia district have busted a gang involved in online fraud worth over Rs 1.28 crore across the country and arrested two of its members, police said on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh said that under 'Operation Vajra', the cyber cell and cyber crime police station, in coordination with nine police stations in the district, conducted an operation on Monday and arrested Piyush Gupta (24), a resident of Rasra police station area, and Anil Yadav (27), a resident of Narhi police station area.
He said the accused and their associates allegedly committed online fraud through various methods, including opening current accounts to solicit investments, gaming, trading, task-based scams, facilitating fake rentals, and running Ponzi schemes.
The SP said a total of 31 complaints involving fraud amounting to Rs 1.28 crore had been registered against the arrested accused on the National Cyber Reporting Platform (NCRP), a centralised online platform for registering cybercrime complaints that are automatically forwarded to the concerned states or Union Territories (UTs).
He added that efforts were underway to trace and arrest the remaining members of the gang. PTI COR NAV MDO MDO
