Two returning from Ayodhya after offering prayers killed in road accident, one injured

Pratapgarh (UP), Jul 9 (PTI) Two people returning from Ayodhya after offering prayers were killed, and one was injured, when their car rammed into a stationary plywood-laden pickup truck near here, police said on Thursday. Circle Officer (Raniganj) Prashant Raj said Soni, 26, and her brother Akash Soni alias Monu, 23, residents of Mankapur in Gonda district, were travelling with Soni's fiancé, Mohit Soni, 29, a resident of Katra Mungra Badshahpur in Jaunpur district, when the accident occurred on Wednesday night. "Mohit was driving the car, and two people were with him while other family members travelled ahead in another vehicle. As the car reached a crossing near Raniganj, it crashed into the rear of a plywood-loaded pickup parked along the roadside," police said. They said locals rushed to the spot after hearing the crash and rescued Mohit by breaking the car's window. Raj said police later cut open the mangled vehicle to rescue other occupants, but Soni and her brother had died by then.
