Assam: Over 270 complaints lodged over fake SC certificates since 2022

Guwahati, Jul 9 (PTI) A total of 273 cases of fake Scheduled Caste certificates have been registered in Assam since 2022, a state minister said on Thursday. In 2023, the highest of 77 cases were lodged, followed by 54 in 2026, 50 in 2022, 49 in 2025 and 43 in 2024, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Ashwini Ray Sarkar said in the assembly. In a written reply to a query by AGP MLA Prakash Chandra Das, Sarkar said inquiry of only 44 per cent of the 273 cases has been completed in the last five years. During this period, the authorities concerned have completed the inquiry in 120 cases – 37 each in 2022 and 2023, 21 in 2024, 20 in 2025 and five in 2026, Sarkar said. PTI TR RBT
