Hazaribag (Jharkhand) Jul 7 (PTI): Two alleged members of the Rahul Dubey gang were arrested with arms during a vehicle-checking drive in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district, police said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made after the Hazaribag SP received information that armed men were travelling in an SUV from Giddi to Hazaribag via Mandu, they said.
Based on the tip-off, a team led by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Barkagaon, conducted a vehicle-checking drive near Kanki More on the Giddi-Mandu road, where the suspected vehicle was intercepted, according to a police statement.
The accused, identified as Mohit Singh alias Kunal (19) and Bhola alias Om Prakash (34), allegedly tried to flee but were caught by the police team.
"During interrogation, both the accused confessed that they are active members of the Rahul Dubey gang and were involved in robbery, extortion, collecting protection money and carrying out firing incidents to spread fear in the area," the statement said.
Police seized a country-made pistol, two live cartridges, two magazines, two mobile phones and the SUV used by the accused.
Police records showed that Mohit, a resident of Bihar's Aurangabad district, was named in several cases linked to the Rahul Dubey gang.
Bhola is a resident of Parsiya village under Haldi police station in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district.
On May 25, six members of the same gang were arrested with arms and ammunition in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district.
According to police, members of the Rahul Dubey gang are primarily involved in extortion of money from owners of local coal industrial units, businessmen and traders in Chatra, Ramgarh and Hazaribag districts. PTI COR SAN SAN MNB
