Etawah (UP), Jul 8 (PTI) Two persons were killed and 27 passengers injured on Wednesday when a private double-decker bus travelling from Varanasi to Delhi rammed into a stationary truck on the Kanpur-Etawah-Agra highway here, police said.
Circle Officer (City) Abhay Narayan Rai said the accident occurred near the ITI overbridge in the Civil Lines police station area, where the bus crashed into a truck that had been standing on the roadside after an earlier accident.
Rai said the impact severely damaged the front portion of the bus, trapping driver Prem (35) and conductor Deepak (21), who died on the spot.
He said the bodies were pulled out after cutting open the mangled cabin and sent for a post-mortem examination.
According to the officer, the bus was carrying 45 passengers and 27 injured people were admitted to the district hospital. Civil Lines Station House Officer KK Mishra said preliminary investigation suggested that the bus driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the accident.
Officials said police removed both the damaged vehicles from the highway and restored traffic flow. PTI CORR ABN ASD ASD
