New Delhi, Jul 8 (PTI) A fire broke out at a two-storey factory in South Delhi's Sangam Vihar on Wednesday, prompting authorities to deploy 10 fire tenders to contain the blaze, officials of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said.
No casualties have been reported in the incident, they said.
The DFS received a call about the fire at 11.52 am from a factory near Holy Chowk in the Sangam Vihar area, prompting the rapid dispatch of 10 fire tenders to the scene.
A fire officer stated that the building was filled with gift packaging material, leaving little open space inside, which complicated firefighting efforts.
"The entire two-storey building was filled with gift packaging material. There was hardly any vacant space inside the premises. We had to break open the doors to gain access and douse the flames effectively," the officer said.
He also noted that no fire safety equipment was installed inside the factory, making the situation even more challenging.
"Not a single area inside the building was free of the stored gift packaging material. The fire is now under control and will be completely extinguished soon," the officer said.
According to the DFS, firefighters worked for several hours to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining structures, as the factory is located in a densely populated locality.
"The area is heavily congested, and a large number of residents had gathered near the site. We sought assistance from the local police to cordon off the area and keep people away so that firefighting operations could be carried out safely," the officer said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. PTI BM BM MPL MPL
