Gurugram, Jul 14 (PTI) Two police personnel in Gurugram were killed on the spot in a road accident near Kheda Khurampur in the Farrukhnagar area, police said on Tuesday.
A speeding water tanker collided with a police emergency response vehicle (ERV) on Monday night, resulting in the immediate deaths of both officers and leaving another critically injured, they added.
The impact was so severe that the police vehicle was completely wrecked.
The deceased have been identified as Head Constable Chhotelal and Head Constable Anil. Their colleague, Constable Dharmendra, who was driving the ERV, sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
According to the police, Head Constables Chhotelal and Anil, deployed on ERV-254, were out on patrol when a tanker approaching from the opposite direction collided with their vehicle at around 11.50 pm.
The impact completely wrecked the ERV and left both head constables and the driver critically injured.
Bystanders and the police immediately launched rescue operations, but both head constables had already succumbed to their injuries.
The third driver of the ERV, Constable Dharmendra, sustained serious injuries in the accident. He was immediately admitted to a nearby private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, a police team arrived at the scene, and the bodies of the deceased officers were sent to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
A case has been registered against the tanker driver, who is currently being interrogated.
A senior police officer stated that the water tanker, which was attached to a tractor, was found parked at the accident site. It lacked lights or reflectors, which may have contributed to the driver's inability to see it in time.
A detailed investigation has been initiated, he added. PTI CORR MPL MPL
