TVK MLA urges govt to bring in total prohibition in Puducherry

Puducherry, Jul 13 (PTI) Puducherry TVK legislator A K Sai J Saravanan Kumar has urged the territorial government to take steps to impose total prohibition in the Union Territory. Talking to reporters after submitting a petition to the Deputy Commissioner of Excise on Monday, Saravanan Kumar said that the functioning of liquor outlets, particularly the resto bars, in several places has been causing nuisance and affecting law and order. He said that the Thirubhuvanai Assembly constituency, which he represents, has many resto bars near schools, places of religious worship and in residential areas. These resto bars have been a source of nuisance to the school-going children, women and residents in the villages in his constituency. He said that officers were misguiding the chief minister that bars and liquor outlets were good source of revenue to the government. This is a wrong approach. Health of the people and a peaceful environment were more important, he added. Saravanan Kumar said that the Centre is ready to provide funds to the state governments implementing total prohibition.
