Cheque bounce case accused escapes from custody of Gujarat Police during transit

Nagpur, Jul 15 (PTI) An accused arrested in a cheque bounce case escaped from the custody of the Gujarat Police personnel staying at a hotel in Nagpur during his transit, a local police official said on Wednesday. According to police, Amit Das Bikamdas had been apprehended in Odisha by a team from the ‘A’ division police station, Rajkot. The team was taking the accused to Gujarat in a private taxi. During the journey, they halted at a hotel in Nagpur on Monday night. The police officer, a constable and the accused were staying in separate rooms, the official said. Police said Bikamdas took advantage of the situation after the constable assigned to watch him allegedly fell asleep and fled early Tuesday morning. CCTV cameras captured the accused walking out of the hotel premises. Gujarat Police have lodged a complaint at the tehsil police station, leading to the registration of a case and a joint search operation, the official added. PTI COR NSK
