Truck runs over family in Jaipur; father, 3 children killed

Jaipur, Jul 7 (PTI) A man and his three children were killed, while his wife was injured, after a truck ran over them while they were standing on a roadside drain cover in Jaipur on Tuesday, police said. The cement cover collapsed under the impact, throwing all five into the drain, police said. The accident occurred near the 200-feet bypass crossing as the truck was headed towards Ajmer. The truck first broke through an iron railing before running over the drain cover on which the family was standing. The three children died on the spot, while their father, identified as Chandra Prakash, succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The mother is undergoing treatment. The impact was so severe that one of the children was beheaded, while the bodies of the others were also badly mutilated. Items found at the scene indicated that the family sold balloons and other goods at road intersections. They were natives of a village in Rajsamand district. Minutes before the accident, two of the children had gone to a nearby establishment to fetch water. A security guard, who gave them water and spoke to them, said the tragedy occurred just minutes after they returned. Local residents rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. The damaged truck was later removed with the help of a crane. PTI SDA RHL
