Agartala, Jul 7 (PTI) The Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) is set to receive its biggest investment boost with four MoUs worth Rs 726 crore expected to be signed at the upcoming Destination Tripura Business Conclave-2026, officials said on Tuesday.
The two-day conclave will be held on July 9 and 10 at the Badharghat International Fair Ground in West Tripura district.
"We are expecting to ink four MoUs valued at Rs 726 crore with potential investors during the mega business event. This will be the largest-ever investment commitment, which will drive modernisation, value addition, tea tourism and employment generation," TTDC chairman Samir Kumar Ghosh said at a press conference.
Tripura produces around 40 lakh kg of finished tea annually.
Ghosh said the biggest investment of Rs 500 crore is expected to come from NDR Infrastructure Pvt Ltd for developing integrated modern tea estates, MSME units, tea value-addition facilities and an export facilitation hub.
"The proposed projects also include organic tea plantations under the PPP model, leasing of TTDC estates, production of premium tea such as rose, white and green tea, tea eco-tourism and a tea museum," he said.
Ghosh expressed confidence that the investments would strengthen the state's tea industry, boost exports, create employment and position the state as a leading destination for tea-based industries and tourism.
TTDC MD Rajesh Kumar Das, while highlighting the investment possibility, said the investments will give a major boost to the state's century-old tea industry.
He added that the projects would create at least 4,000 direct jobs, with investors committing that 80 per cent of the employment generated would be provided to people from the state. PTI PS MNB
