New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) A large tree fell onto a Mercedes and another moving passing car on a busy road in southeast Delhi's East of Kailash during heavy rain on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
No injuries were reported, they said.
The tree suddenly collapsed on Raja Dhir Singh Marg, damaging the Mercedes and another car that came under its branches, an official of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said.
The DFS said it received a call about the incident at 1.38 pm and immediately dispatched a fire tender to the spot.
"Our team immediately rushed to the spot. Three people were trapped inside a moving car after the tree crashed onto the road. All of them were safely rescued, and no one was injured," the official said.
A local resident said the tree fell around 1.20 pm while one car was passing through the road and a parked Mercedes was also hit by its branches.
Personnel of the Public Works Department (PWD) also reached the site and began cutting and removing the fallen tree to clear the carriageway and restore normal traffic movement.
The DFS officials said no one was injured in the incident but stressed the need for regular pruning and periodic health assessment of trees in the area.
The fallen tree temporarily disrupted traffic on Raja Dhir Singh Marg before clearance operations were launched.
Officials suspect the tree was uprooted by the strong winds and rain that lashed parts of the national capital during the afternoon.
