Mandya (Karnataka), Jul 7 (PTI) Three men have been arrested for allegedly intercepting and assaulting a family travelling in a car on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway in a suspected case of road rage, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at around 10.30 pm on Sunday near Maddur in Mandya district and was captured on the dashcam of a vehicle travelling behind the victims, they said.
The footage has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and raising concerns over commuter safety on the highway.
According to police, the victim, identified as Sagar, a Bengaluru resident, was travelling with his wife, children and an elderly woman when the incident took place.
The video shows a group of men stopping Sagar's car in the middle of the highway, surrounding the vehicle, dragging him out and assaulting him on the road.
His wife is seen stepping out to shield him, while an occupant of another vehicle intervenes in an attempt to defuse the situation.
However, the assault continued.
Police said the confrontation began after Sagar's car allegedly collided with another vehicle amid heavy traffic on the expressway.
An argument between the occupants of the two vehicles over the collision soon escalated into violence.
Sagar, who sustained injuries in the attack, lodged a complaint on Monday.
A senior police officer said three of the accused had been arrested and teams had been formed to trace the remaining suspects, who fled after the assault.
Further investigation is underway. PTI AMP SSK
