Sirsa (Haryana), Jul 10 (PTI) Residents of Nathusari Kalan village in Haryana's Sirsa district have resolved not to stand surety for anyone accused of drug smuggling as part of efforts to curb the growing menace of narcotics in the area. The decision was taken unanimously at a village meeting (panchayat) where residents expressed concern over rising drug addiction among youth. The panchayat also decided that social action would be taken against the villager who stands surety for a drug smuggler or a person involved in narcotics-related offences. Villagers said no person found selling drugs or involved in the trafficking of drugs would be spared. Besides legal action, such persons could also face social boycott, they added. The panchayat further resolved that strict action could be considered against the families of those found involved in the trafficking of drugs, including asking them to leave the village. To strengthen the anti-drug campaign, the villagers constituted a vigilance committee to monitor suspicious activities and immediately inform the police and the panchayat about suspected drug peddling. Village Sarpanch Rita Kasania said drug addiction destroys individuals, families and society, and the decisions were taken to protect the youth and make the village drug-free. Several villagers attended the meeting, including Jagatpal Kasania. PTI VSD KSS KSS
