New Delhi, Jul 14 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear next week a batch of applications filed by the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government seeking modification of its directions regulating industrial activity in the Taj Trapezium Zone. The matter was mentioned before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana by Attorney General R Venkataramani. During the proceedings, the state government informed the bench that its application seeking modification of the top court’s October 2024 directions, which prohibit the establishment of new industries and the expansion of existing industries within the Zone, had been pending for some time. The state government further submitted that it had prepared a comprehensive vision document addressing industrial activity in the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ) and requested that the bench consider all pending applications and related reports together. Appearing for the Centre, the top law officer said, "The State of UP has a serious concern. We have filed an application seeking some modification to the order. There is a vision document with respect to industries. All of those could be listed together." The CJI said he had recently been informed in another matter that even "green category" industries were facing difficulties in operating because of the existing directions governing the TTZ. Noting the broader implications of the issue, the bench said the applications filed by the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government, along with reports submitted by the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), should be examined holistically. The bench agreed to list the entire batch of connected matters for hearing next week, observing that all pending issues concerning industrial activity in the TTZ would be taken up together.
