Punjab cop arrested as police seize 300 grams of heroin, Rs 1.27 Lakh

Amritsar, Jul 9 (PTI) A Punjab Police Sub-Inspector posted in Tarn Taran and his female associate were arrested with 300 grams of heroin and Rs 1.27 lakh suspected to be drug money, police said on Thursday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran Surinder Lamba said the arrested police official, Sahib Singh, a resident of Majjupur village in Tarn Taran district, was posted as the Investigating Officer (IO) at Khalra Police Station. He said the woman, Kinder Kaur, is a resident of Mari Udhoke village and was staying at Baba Jallan Colony in Jhabal, Tarn Taran district. The SSP said a police patrol led by SHO Baljinder Singh intercepted a car at Baba Jallan Colony in the Jhabal area following a tip-off. He said during a search conducted in the presence of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhbir Singh, police recovered 300 grams of heroin allegedly concealed in the Sub-Inspector's right trouser pocket and Rs 1.27 lakh, suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking, from Kinder Kaur's purse. Police also impounded the car the accused was using. Lamba said investigations are underway and an FIR has been registered at Jhabal Police Station under Sections 21-C, 27A and 29 of the NDPS Act.
