Srinagar, Jul 9 (PTI) A 46-year-old Amarnath yatra pilgrim was rescued by CRPF personnel on Thursday after she suffered a cardiac issue en route to the cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The incident occurred near the Sarbal camp along the Baltal axis in Ganderbal district.
The woman, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was attended to by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel deployed on the route and was first taken to a medical facility of the paramilitary where she was given oxygen support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a senior officer said.
She was subsequently rushed in an armoured CRPF vehicle to the Army hospital camp located at Neelgrath, where she is being treated, the officer said.
The CRPF is providing security to the Yatra and has also deployed Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) and women's 'May I Help you' mobile squads to help pilgrims during an emergency.
The 57-day pilgrimage, which began on July 3, will conclude on August 28.
More than 1.45 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the 3,880-metre-high shrine of Lord Shiva so far this year. PTI NES APL APL
