Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission-Gramin (VB-G RAM G)
Editorial
Puducherry Jul 8 (PTI) TVK legislator in the Union Territory, AK Sai J Saravanan Kumar, on Wednesday urged the territorial government to ensure adequate employment opportunities in the Thirubuvanai Assembly constituency that he represents by strengthening the implementation of the new rural employment scheme, VB-G RAM G.
Saravanan Kumar presented a memorandum to the Secretary of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) of Puducherry Administration, bringing to his notice that a vast stretch of farmland in his constituency had been converted into residential plots by realtors, resulting in a drastic decline in agricultural employment.
He also stated in the memorandum that local industries and private companies have not provided sufficient employment opportunities to the rural workers. Several workers, women, persons with disabilities, and rural youth have been left with only a limited number of workdays under the VBG Ram G scheme. This is insufficient to sustain the livelihood of the rural population, he said.
He also stated that although Thirubuvanai constituency has nine village panchayats, only four Gram Rozgar Sevaks were available. This has caused several practical difficulties in work allocation, registration of beneficiaries, maintenance of records and execution of works, he added.
The legislator requested the government through the memorandum to appoint dedicated Gram Rozgar Sevaks in all the nine village panchayats to ensure effective implementation of the scheme and availability of 125 days of guaranteed employment to all the eligible beneficiaries. PTI CORR ADB
