Noida, Jul 9 (PTI) Five people, including three labourers, were killed and four others injured in two separate road accidents involving SUVs in Gautam Buddh Nagar district over the past 24 hours, police said on Thursday.
Two people were killed and four others injured after a speeding SUV, a Scorpio, rammed into a vegetable-laden loader and a motorcycle in Noida's Phase-2 area on Thursday afternoon, the police said.
The accident took place around 3 pm under the Phase-2 police station limits when the Scorpio collided with the loader, causing a motorcycle travelling alongside to also get involved in the crash, they said.
The police identified the deceased as Deepak (16), a resident of Badaun who was sitting atop the loader, and Rajveer (50), a resident of Sambhal. Deepak died on the spot, while Rajveer succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital.
The injured were identified as loader driver Ashok Kumar (56), a resident of Shamli, Akash (31) and Shankar (24), both residents of Sambhal, and motorcyclist Abhishek Rai (29), a resident of Sant Kabir Nagar district.
The police shifted the injured to hospital and sent the bodies for postmortem examination after completing the inquest proceedings.
The Scorpio has been seized, while its driver fled the spot after the accident. Efforts are underway to arrest him, the police said, adding that further legal proceedings are in progress.
In another incident that took place on Wednesday night, three labourers were killed after a Scorpio allegedly hit them while they were walking along the roadside near Neemka village on the Jewar-Khurja road.
The deceased were identified as Karan (22), Vishwajeet (24) and Mithun (25), all residents of Araria district in Bihar. The police said the three had come to the area for paddy transplantation work.
A case has been registered against the driver in that incident on a complaint lodged by the victims' family members.
The police have seized the vehicle and constituted a team to arrest the accused. PTI COR KIS KVK KVK
