Hyderabad, Jul 10 (PTI) AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday urged Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju to consider issuing Permanent Residence Certificates to help poor people during the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls.
Owaisi said he met the Chief Secretary along with ruling Congress leader and Telangana Minorities Residential Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGMREIS) Vice Chairman Faheem Qureshi.
He said he demanded that the Revanth Reddy government consider issuing Permanent Residence Certficate (PRC) of Family Register Certificate to the electors under Article 162 which deals with executive power of states.
"If @revanth_anumula accepts it will be beneficial to poor people of Telangana in getting their names in Final SIR list ,which will save them many troubles & inconvenience," the AIMIM president said in a post on 'X'.
The Karnataka government is issuing PRC certificates through a Governmnet Order under Karnataka Sakala Services Act 2011, he said.
Owasisi said Telangana has "authentic databases of the state", including the 'Samagra Kutumba Survey' (intensive household survey) conducted during the previous BRS regime, the Socio Economic and Caste Survey of 2024 conducted by the present Congress government, BHU Bharati Act 2025, food security card database of the Civil Supplies Dept, Municipal Tax records, School and Board records.
He hoped that a positive decision would be taken in the "larger interest of poor, minorities, BCs, SC and STs of Telangana".
Owaisi on July 6 demanded that the Congress government in Telangana provide PRC to people by finalising certain criteria to ensure that eligible voters do not lose their vote during the ongoing SIR.
He had alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is not giving him time to meet.
The house-to-house enumeration for the SIR commenced in Telangana on June 25 and the exercise would continue till July 24. PTI SJR SJR KH
