Over Rs 2 crore seized from guest house near Kolkata, probe underway

Kolkata, Jul 14 (PTI) The Bidhannagar Police has seized Rs 2.2 crore in cash from a guest house in New Town near Kolkata and detained seven persons for questioning, a senior officer said on Tuesday. The cash was seized during a late night raid on Monday following a tip-off, he said. "During the operation, cash amounting to Rs 2.2 crore was recovered. Seven persons present at the premises have been detained and are being questioned," the police officer told PTI. He said investigators were trying to ascertain the source of the money and the purpose for which it had been kept at the guest house. "All possible angles, including the hawala trail and suspected cyber fraud proceeds, are being looked into. The investigation is at a preliminary stage," the officer said. PTI SCH RBT
