Aizawl, Jul 14 (PTI) Mizo Students' Union (MSU), an influential student organisation in Mizoram, on Tuesday urged the state government to take appropriate action against teachers allegedly not present at their assigned postings. The MSU alleged that around 44.73 per cent of teachers appointed under the 'Samagra' education programme are not serving at their designated postings and warned that the situation is causing an acute shortage of teachers in schools and disrupting students' education. The matter was raised during a meeting between the MSU delegation and Education Minister Vanlalthlana on Tuesday, according to MSU general secretary Zodinsanga. According to the student organisation, 246 of the 550 (44.73 per cent) teachers appointed under the Samagra programme are currently not serving at their designated schools. The MSU said large-scale absence of teachers from their assigned posts has left many schools understaffed, adversely affecting classroom teaching and learning. It also claimed that Mamit district alone has around 150 teachers who are not reporting to their officially assigned postings, making it one of the worst-affected districts. Responding to the representation, Vanlalthlana assured the MSU delegation that the government considers the issue a matter of serious concern and assured that appropriate action would be taken to address the problems, Zodinsanga said.
