Jamshedpur, Jul 9 (PTI) A man, accused of killing a youth in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district, was injured in an encounter on Thursday after he fired at a police team and tried to escape from custody, a senior officer said.
The encounter occurred when the accused was taken to the Smriti Park area in Jamshedpur, where he concealed two firearms used in the youth's murder, he said.
"During the search operation, the accused, identified as Shabe, picked up one of the two concealed firearms and fired at the police team. He made an attempt to escape from custody. The police personnel retaliated in self-defence, and he sustained bullet injuries," Superintendent of Police (City) Lalit Meena said.
Shabe was taken to MGM Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment, he added.
The police arrested three persons, including Shabe, after the youth, identified as Rahul Baccha, was shot dead at Munshi Mohalla in the Mango Police Station area on Wednesday night, the SP said.
The exact cause of the killing of Baccha is yet to be ascertained, and the investigation is underway, the police officer said. PTI BS BDC
