Lion cub dies due to suffocation at Nahargarh Biological Park

Jaipur, Jul 7 (PTI) A lion cub born recently to 'Tara' at the Nahargarh Biological Park's safari area died due to suffocation on Tuesday, forest officials said. Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Vijay Pal said the cub had been reunited with its mother after birth, and the lioness was caring for it normally. "Since Tuesday morning, the cub appeared lethargic and could not feed. The lioness was continuously licking the cub and carrying it around in her mouth," he said. He added that a medical board conducted a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death. "The report attributed the death to suffocation caused by a perforation or constriction in the trachea," the officer said. The forest department and the lion safari administration performed the cub's last rites according to protocol. Officials said the lioness's condition is normal and veterinarians are monitoring her constantly. PTI AG APL APL
