New Delhi, Jul 15 (PTI) Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday met Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises HD Kumaraswamy and sought the revival of the long-defunct Cement Corporation of India unit in Adilabad district, Telangana. After the meeting, Rama Rao told reporters that he had apprised the Union minister of the significance of the Adilabad plant, which was set up in the early 1980s and had once provided direct and indirect employment to nearly 6,000 people. The former state minister said the previous BRS government had revived several sick industries during its tenure from 2014 to 2023, and had made sincere efforts to reopen the Adilabad Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit as well. However, the proposal did not elicit a response from the Centre. Expressing optimism following the meeting, Rama Rao said Kumaraswamy assured the BRS delegation that the plant's revival was feasible, provided the Telangana government extended the limestone mining lease for 50 years, offered power subsidy, and provided other incentives typically extended to industries in rural areas. Rama Rao urged the state government to cooperate with the Centre to ensure the plant's reopening, saying its revival would generate employment opportunities and boost economic activity in the Adilabad region.
