Jamshedpur, July 9 (PTI) The opposition BJP in Jharkhand on Thursday urged the police to review cases registered against its leaders and workers during the recent Jamshedpur bandh, which was called to protest the prevailing law and order situation.
Led by BJP's Jamshedpur Mahanagar Committee president Sanjeev Sinha, a party delegation submitted a memorandum to SSP (East Singhbhum) Ehtesham Waquarib.
The police had registered a case against 18 persons by name, including the presidents of BJP's Telco and Ghorabandha block committees.
Sinha told the SSP that the bandh call on July 3 was given in protest against the prevailing law and order situation, in the wake of the murder of Karni Sena leader Himanshu Singh in the presence of police personnel in Bistupur on June 27.
The BJP claimed that the bandh was a grand success as business establishments and markets had downed their shutters, educational institutions were closed, and vehicles remained off the roads.
The delegation demanded stringent action against criminals and effective steps to improve the law and order situation in the city.
Though "no incident of violence was reported" from any part of the city, Sinha said police booked BJP leaders and workers under serious sections. PTI BS SOM
