Intoxicated man kills son for defending mother, dies by suicide in Andhra

Mittamedapalem (Andhra Pradesh), Jul 7 (PTI) A man struck his son with a cricket bat and smothered him with a pillow before dying by suicide at a village in Markapuram district on Tuesday, police said. Markapuram sub-divisional police officer U Naga Raju said Silar Saheb was in an inebriated state when he attacked his son Pathan Zahid Basha (26) in Mittamedapalem village. “Saheb struck his son with a bat and then smothered him to death with a pillow. Later, he hung himself in another room,” Raju told PTI. According to police, both Saheb and his son worked irregularly, while the accused had become addicted to alcohol. Moreover, Raju said Saheb frequently harassed his wife for money to consume alcohol. However, Basha stepped in to defend his mother, which Saheb resented, leading to the violent attack.
