Chandigarh, Jul 7 (PTI) Rain lashed vast stretches in Haryana on Tuesday, with mercury hovering near normal in most places, while isolated parts of Punjab too received sporadic rainfall. According to the local meteorological centre, Chandigarh received light showers, with the maximum temperature recorded at 36.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. In Haryana, heavy rainfall was witnessed in Gurugram, with the rain gauge logging 80 mm. The downpour brought down the maximum temperature, which was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius, three below normal limits. Other parts of the state -- Narnaul, Rohtak, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Nuh, Panchkula -- also received rainfall. The maximum was recorded at 36.6 degrees Celsius at Ambala, 33 degrees Celsius at Narnaul and 32.6 degrees Celsius at Rohtak. However, Sirsa experienced a hot day, with the mercury logging 40.8 degrees Celsius, while Hisar recorded a maximum of 38.9 degrees Celsius. Cloudy skies prevailed over parts of Punjab on Tuesday, with the advancing southwest monsoon bringing scattered thunderstorms. Amritsar recorded a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana and Patiala recorded 35 degrees Celsius and 34.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. PTI SUN ARB ARB
