New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) Delhi government on Tuesday reconstituted the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) and appointed Om Prakash Vyas as its chairperson.
Besides Vyas, Rahul Gautam, Kundan Kanskar, Swati Gupta and Monika Sharma have been appointed as members of the commission. Their appointments will take effect from the date they assume office, an official statement said.
The appointments have been made nearly three years after the commission fell vacant.
The appointments were made through a notification issued by the Department of Women and Child Development under the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2008 and the relevant notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, according to a statement.
The chairperson and members will serve a three-year term. However, their tenure will end earlier if they attain the prescribed age limit of 65 years for the chairperson and 60 years for members, it said.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said protecting children's rights and ensuring their welfare remain the Delhi government's highest priority.
She said strengthening the DCPCR is an important step towards ensuring the effective protection of children’s rights.
Gupta expressed confidence that the commission's new leadership would work with sensitivity, transparency and responsibility while safeguarding the interests of children and supporting their holistic development. PTI SHB APL
