Five women arrested for snatching gold chain from shopper in northeast Delhi

New Delhi, Jul 9 (PTI) A group of five women was arrested for allegedly snatching a gold chain from a shopper in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar area, police said on Thursday. The incident occurred on Monday evening near Akki Jewellers in Makhan Market when the complainant was shopping, they said. According to police, one of the accused approached the shopper on the pretext of seeking help, claiming that her foot was sprained. Taking advantage of the crowded market, the woman and her associates allegedly snatched the complainant's gold chain. As the woman realised her chain had been stolen, she raised an alarm. Locals chased the accused and overpowered all five while they were trying to escape, police said. Following this, they were arrested on the day of the incident. The partially damaged gold chain was recovered from one of the accused and returned to the complainant. An FIR was registered at the Karawal Nagar police station. The accused have been identified as Suman (33), V Suman (42), Roshni Devi (28), Kajal (38) and Shera (40), all residents of Delhi. The police said V Suman was previously involved in a case of causing hurt, while no past criminal record has been found against the remaining four accused. PTI BM SMV PRK
