New Delhi, Jul 9 (PTI) The Delhi Police has busted a fake call centre and arrested six fraudsters allegedly involved in cheating people by posing as bank officials and offering to increase their credit card limits, an official said on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as Nitin Solanki (25), Dhruv (21), Anish Gupta (20), Simran (24), Ishika (25) and Bobby Shresth (22). Police said the racket operated from a rented flat in Delhi's Khyala area.
"The case came to light after a resident of Karawal Nagar lodged a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), alleging that fraudsters posing as bank representatives called him with an offer to enhance the credit limit of his credit card," said the police officer.
After gaining his confidence, the callers allegedly obtained his confidential credit card details and carried out unauthorised online transactions, siphoning off around Rs 1.31 lakh from his account, he alleged.
Police registered an e-FIR and launched an investigation. During the probe, the police team found that part of the stolen amount was used to purchase a mobile phone and two power banks through an online delivery platform.
Technical analysis led police to Anish Gupta, who allegedly used the mobile phone to contact the complainant. During questioning, Gupta disclosed that he was working at a fraudulent call centre operating from a rented flat.
Based on his disclosure, the police team raided the premises and apprehended the remaining accused.
The investigation revealed that Solanki and Simran allegedly ran the fake call centre. They said Ishika and Dhruv worked as callers who contacted victims, impersonated bank officials and extracted confidential credit card details that were later used for fraudulent transactions.
Police recovered five mobile phones, including the handset allegedly used to contact the complainant, and one power bank purchased with the stolen money.
"During verification, Dhruv was found to have been previously involved in two cybercrime cases, while Bobby Shresth had one previous cybercrime case registered against him. Further investigation is underway," the officer said. PTI BM ASD ASD
