New Delhi, Jul 9 (PTI) Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav chaired the 46th meeting of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) in Coimbatore on Thursday and released the CZA's newsletter highlighting milestones in conservation breeding, wildlife health, scientific management and capacity building across Indian zoos.
Proposals for zoo modernisation, establishing new zoological facilities, improving visitor education, scientific planning and infrastructure development were also reviewed at the meeting.
"This was done to ensure that Indian zoos continue to serve as centres of conservation, education and research," an official said.
Moreover, several issues were discussed at the meeting, including standard operating procedures for veterinarians and animal handlers in Indian zoos and the national wildlife health policy concept paper proposed to address emerging challenges in wildlife-health management.
Other subjects, such as the second cycle of management effectiveness evaluation of zoos conducted by six evaluation teams, were also deliberated upon. PTI ALC RC
