Jammu, Jul 9 (PTI) A drug peddler was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district and lodged in the district jail here on Thursday, police said.
The detainee was identified as Farman Ali alias DC, a resident of Rakh Barotian village in Vijaypur tehsil of Samba district.
According to police, Farman was allegedly involved in multiple cases registered under NDPS at Vijaypur and Samba police stations for his suspected role in drug trafficking.
Police said the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Samba, prepared and submitted a dossier along with relevant documents to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, recommending his preventive detention in view of his repeated alleged involvement in the illicit narcotics trade.
Following the issuance of a detention order, the accused was taken into preventive custody and lodged in the district jail in Jammu, they said.
Police alleged that the detainee was a habitual drug peddler whose activities posed a serious threat to public health, particularly to the youth.
Reiterating its resolve to combat the drug menace, Samba Police said it would continue taking stringent action against drug peddlers and smugglers to curb illicit narcotics trafficking and ensure a drug-free society. PTI AB AB APL APL
